Apple's iPhone Takes A Big Step For Motion Control In Mobility
Apple announced its iPhone SDK today and hopefully not lost in all the big news about Exchange ActiveSync support (we can hear millions of corporate email users cheering now) was the big role that motion control played.
Apple’s new SDK incorporates full access to the 3D accelerometer within the iPhone (along with the Multitouch UI).
One of Apple’s demos at the SDK Roadmap event today was a game developed by Apple called Touch Fighter — with the interface based upon accelerometers (as well as touch).
EA Mobile also demo’d a forthcoming game called Spore, which again uses the accelerometer for game play.
And one more thing (to steal from Steve Jobs): Sega also showed an iPhone port of a game (which they described as “not a mobile game, but a console game”) called Super Monkey Ball which, like the others, uses motion as its primary input mechanism.
We’re excited about the gaming apps, but we’re also very curious about how developers can integrate motion into other applications on the iPhone.
